The Anomaly are hiking boots for bold explorers who crave the unknown and refuse to blend in. Built for uncharted terrain with durable support and soles made from recycled bike tires, they fuse alien-organic design with a sustainable edge that stands out on every trail.

Role

Solo Designer

Context

First-Year Studio

Duration

5 Weeks, Spring 2025

The Brief

Design a pair of footwear with a focus on materiality and transforming a 2D material into a 3D object. Use Wool Felt, that is needle punched and pressed to 1/8" thickness. Explore the material, then focus on creative designs, and eventually fabricate and wear a pair of shoes. Footwear should demonstrate wearability, fit, and aesthetics. Students will continue to build on branding skills and design a brand that fits the concept behind their footwear.

Constraints

You are limited to 18” x 32” x 1/8” material stock to produce BOTH shoes. Only use the provided wool felt for the structure of the shoe and pick one "sustainable" material for the sole. No additional materials may be used for the shoe's structure. Use methods explored in material testing to control the color and flexibility of the felt.

The shoe is to be designed around a last of your foot and therefore should not have laces or any other method of tightening.
